Lady and Men Intercup
Malmö Lady Intercup In the year 2000 the international goalballtournament “Malmö Lady Intercup” started by the previous goalballplayer from Malmö and the coach for Sweden Henrik Bergkvist. Henrik meant that there were too few good competitions for woman’s national teams in the world and he thought that the goalballclub in Malmö would take initiatives to such a competition. His thought was that the tournament should be a stem competition to the Paralympics in Sydney. The first year of the tournament became a large success and all of participation countries, as the first year was seven, was very grateful about the tournament. The organizers idea was to do an occasion of the competition and to take the arrangement to a new level, with sounds- and light shows and other things as not where so common in competitions at that time. The year 2016 sixteen different nations from all over the world participated and that is the record so far. Seven different nations have won the competition over the years. Finland won the first edition and has afterwards been followed of Denmark, Sweden, USA, Canada, Russia and Japan. USA is the champions all time with their nine victories.Malmö Men Intercup After a lot of questions and wishes from many international goalballteams for men FIFH Malmö Goalball decided to arrange the first edition of an Intercup for Men as a copy of the big yearly event “Malmö Lady Intercup” in 2008. The tournament was held as a final preparation for the Paralympic Games in Beijing and saw the hometeam Sweden as the winner. Seven teams participated in the first edition. After that there were plans to make the Men Intercup as a yearly arrangement too but of some reasons it took up to 2012 before the second edition took place, that time as a preparation for the Paralympic Games in London. Also in 2012 Sweden made a very great performance through the tournament but they were beaten in the final by 4-5 against Finland. Ten teams participated in that second edition. The third edition was played in 2014 and this time together with the ladies tournament. Eight teams participated and Germany beat Israel in the final by 7-5 and the thought to do the tournaments together was such a great success that we did it again in 2015 and seven teams participated there. Turkey won the gold after beaten Belgium with 11-2 in the final game. Turkey also won the fifth edition with eight participating teams after a victory against Germany in the final with 10-0. In 2016 the Men Intercup was held by itself and Turkey once again won the gold-medal after a final victory against Germany by 10-0. Our tournaments was once again arranged together in 2017 and Lithuania took their first victory at the tournament with a finalscore of 6-2 against Ukraine. In 2018 our tournament was played as a preparation-tournament for the World Championships and Brazil beats Germany with 12-2 in the final. In 2019 eight teams participated in a straight round robin and Brazil was outstanding and took the goldmedals, seven points before Germany.Champions2000 | Finland | - | 2001 | Denmark | - | 2002 | Sweden | - | 2003 | USA | - | 2004 | USA | - | 2005 | USA | - | 2006 | Canada | - | 2007 | USA | - | 2008 | USA | Sweden | 2009 | USA | - | 2010 | Canada | - | 2011 | Russia | - | 2012 | Finland | Finland | 2013 | USA | - | 2014 | USA | Germany | 2015 | USA | Turkey | 2016 | Russia | Turkey | 2017 | Russia | Lithuania | 2018 | Turkey | Brazil | 2019 | Russia | Brazil | 2020 | Cancelled | - | 2021 | Cancelled | - | 2022 | Japan | - | 2023 | Turkey | - |
